Yet Another Summer Beer

I’m a little behind on posting stuff by a few weeks ago my boyfriend and I went to New York City for a long weekend. While there we got to enjoy a lot of different food and drinks, as one does in New York.

One that stood out to me was Five Boroughs Brewing Co. Summer Ale. Naturally I had to try it because not only was it local; out of Brooklyn New York, but the name was Summer Ale; perfect for the weekend that was starting off my summer!

Now let me tell you this beer was so good I ended up ordering two of the same one. The place we went also had an ipa on tap but as you’ve probably come to find out I don’t do ipas so I stuck with this beaut. It had the perfect light summery taste you would expect in its namesake.

I was instantly drawn to the can because it really embodied the spirit of the season and was simple yet beautiful.

After looking at the website I found that unfortunately this summer ale is a seasonal offering; which I should’ve guessed, but is also only available in one of their taproom locations and a few select restaurants and possibly stores. So sadly I probably will not be able to try this beer again unless I go back to New York and hunt it down.

However I am happy I got to try it. This was the first beer I’ve had in awhile that was completely new in the fact that I hadn’t had any of their other beers before or even really heard of the brewery. So for me that was exciting because that doesn’t happen that often anymore now that I literally drink beer all the time now and brewery hop all over.

So if you happen to stop this on a menu anywhere or see it in a store send it my way! Jk but definitely give it a taste if you’re in the mood for something refreshing.

Another Summer Staple

This week I’m featuring a yummy summery beer named Hibiscus Wheat from J’Ville Brewery in Jacksonville, Vermont.  To start off J’ville is a fantastic little small-town brewery.  Its building is also home to Honora Winery their sister company which has been around since before J’Ville was even built.  Even with Honora being the more well-known J’ville is now taking off and has even opened another tasting room in Dover, Vermont, home of Mount Snow and in the winter many skiers which is great for their business.

The winery and brewery at Jacksonville is a great place to visit.  The inside is really nice and decorated very fashionably and the outside is very inviting with picnic tables to enjoy a glass or two of their beer or wine.  They also have cheese you can buy and they make little snacks like adult grilled cheeses and charcuterie boards.  I highly suggest a visit.

I’ve had a few of their beers over the years and have had many I’ve loved but none have been as amazing as their Hibiscus Wheat.  My boyfriend (an IPA lover) and I (a hefenwizen and lager lover) both love this one the same amount.  So much so that we have been going just about every weekend anxiously awaiting for it to appear on the shelves.  It is an early summer beer that they usually release near the first week of summer and continued on with their tradition putting out the cans this past weekend.

Anyways this beer is light and fruity but without being too wheaty because my boyfriend hates wheat or any amount of hops which I hate.  Despite the light taste it packs a punch a 7.1%! Probably the highest percentage beer I like.  I’m telling you this beer really is fantastic we went through the 4-pack we bought in a day.  We drank it so fast I forgot to get a picture of it in a glass to show the slight pink color the beer has from the hibiscus.  But that’s fine because I know we’ll be going back (probably next weekend lol) and pick up another pack or two and then I’ll remember to take a photo.

Overall I rate this beer a 5 out of 5 on my beer amazingness scale for the summery factor as well as the fact that my boyfriend and I both love it which is an extremely hard feat to conquer.

Deck Beer Season

It is officially my favorite season; beers on the deck! I absolutely love summer and being able to drink outdoors. Even more lucky for me with the influx of craft breweries there are so many local ones that offer outdoor patio seating. One in particular is New City Brewery of Easthampton Mass. (Facebook)

For the longest time I just couldn’t get myself to love New City. Don’t get me wrong it is a super cool tasting room and the outdoor patio is super nice, especially over the years it’s expanded and grown. However I just wasn’t a fan of their beers. They had a lot of different varieties but in a baby and they were just all so strong. I did enjoy some of their stouts but I could only drink a small glass of it.

Despite that fact I kept going back because of the awesome atmosphere and my boyfriend really enjoys their IPAs. Then just recently they released several new more wheaty and summer style beers and now I am obsessed!

Introducing the Millside Pils:

So I saw them post about this on their Facebook page and I think went the next day to try one. Four beers later I was absolutely not disappointed. This is super light in body and is the epitome of a Pilsner. It is the absolute best summer patio beer and I highly highly recommend a try. They also just got a canning line and now sell these in can packs to go (bye bye money).

While there I also suggest their summer beer if they happen to have it on tap or their other new beer the Bramble Weisse Sour (another easy summer drink at only 3 something percent). When I go back several more times this summer expect another post on each of these yummy favorites.

Anyways again I recommend a little jaunt down to New City to try a few of these wonderful creations, or even get a flight and try some of the darker or IPA beers if that’s your style.
